Jenseits des dudualen Finanzierungssystems wird analysiert, welche strukturellen Voraussetzungen Unikliniken für ein erfolgreiches Business Development mitbringen, wie notwendige Effizienzsteigerungen und Kostensenkungen erreicht werden und zukünftige neue Erlösquellen durch neue Geschäftsmodelle hervorgebracht werden können. Das deutsche Gesundheitssystem mit seinen mehr als 2000 Krankenhäusern gilt als eines der besten weltweit. Eine hohe Lebenserwartung, die freie Arztwahl, relativ kurze Wartezeiten im Vergleich zu internationalen Standards und Leistungserbringer mit Expertise auf jedem medizinischem Fachgebiet zählen zu den gro en Errungenschaften. Allerdings sind stationäre und ambulante Versorgung im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Ländern zu streng getrennt. Eine damit einhergehende Überversorgungsstruktur und daraus resultierende Effizienzdefizite führen vor dem Hintergrund der demografischen Entwicklung zur Kostenexplosion. Politisch getriggerte Interventionen versuchen das System des staatlichen Versorgungsauftrags zu steuern, zu stabilisieren und zu liberalisieren. Die Gesundheitsbranche gilt heute als einer der wichtigsten Wachstumstreiber der Volkswirtschaft.
