About The Book

The hush of early morning drifts over a sunlit paddock, dew shimmering on wild grasses, while the distant murmur of a creek threads through the heart of rural Australia. In these verses, the Australian bush is not merely a backdrop but a living presence-restless, intimate, and full of quiet revelations. Each poem captures the shifting moods of the countryside, from the fierce clarity of midday to the gentle melancholy of dusk, inviting readers to linger among the gum trees, listen to the call of magpies, and trace the winding paths of creek and gully. The collection's lyrical verse evokes the rhythms of nature and the subtleties of a land both harsh and nurturing, offering a rare glimpse into early 20th century poetry shaped by the spirit and solitude of the Australian landscape. This is a body of work that stands apart for its delicate observation and deep affection for the Australian countryside. The poet's eye for detail-sunlight on water, the hush before a storm, the scent of eucalypt-renders each scene with a clarity that feels both immediate and enduring. The poems speak to anyone drawn to australian poetry or the unique textures of australian nature writing, yet they also resonate with those who appreciate the universal longing for belonging and beauty. Rooted in australian literature yet distinctly personal, these lines invite contemplation of the land's resilience and the fleeting moments of wonder it offers. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure. For readers and collectors alike, it is an invitation to revisit the australian pastoral tradition and to rediscover the quiet power of nature poems that linger long after the last page is turned.
