La maturation est la phase tardive du développement de la graine, au cours de laquelle l'embryon accumule des réserves, entre en dormance et acquiert la tolérance à la dessiccation. ABI3 est un régulateur majeur de cette phase, sa mutation résulte en la perte des principales étapes de la maturation, ainsi qu'à une forte réduction d'expression de nombreux gènes de protéines de réserves et de LEA (Late Embryogenesis Abundant). Aucune liaison spécifique d'ABI3 à l'ADN n'a été montrée et l'on pense que d'autres facteurs de transcription de la famille des "basic leucine zipper" (bZIP), tel ABI5, permettraient de recruter ABI3 au niveau des promoteurs cibles. Dans cet ouvrage, nous décrivons la caractérisation de 3 gènes de la famille de ABI5 (EEL, AREB3 et AtbZIP67) chez Arabidopsis thaliana. Le profil d'expression de ces 3 protéines au cours de la maturation de la graine et l'analyse fonctionnelle du gène EEL par génétique inverse sont présentés. Enfin, l'introduction de formes activées ou non de ABI5 dans différents contextes dépourvus de protéine ABI3 fonctionnelle nous a permis d'évaluer le besoin d'un domaine activateur fort pour l'action d'ABI5 sur la régulation de certains LEA.
