"THE CITY THOUGHT IT WANTED THE TRUTH.
THEN CAIN GAVE IT EXACTLY THAT."

CAIN: THE WHITE CARNIVAL

Kingston is bleeding.

Gangs rule neighbourhoods. Politicians sell hope they never intend to deliver. Churches preach salvation while violence stalks every street corner.

Detective Malcolm Reid has spent twenty years watching the city rot one body at a time.

Then Cain arrives.

Dressed in white and carrying a smile that never quite reaches his eyes, he walks unharmed through cartel territory, ends wars with conversations, and convinces criminals to confess sins they have hidden for years.

At first, Kingston believes he is a miracle.

Then the bodies begin to appear.

As the city becomes obsessed with confession, exposure and public judgement, Reid discovers a terrifying truth. Cain is not trying to save Kingston.

He is turning it into a carnival.

A place where every secret is revealed.

Every lie is punished.

And every monster is finally given permission to become what it truly is.

Because the most dangerous people are not the guilty.

They are the crowd that enjoys watching.

TRUTH IS NOT ALWAYS FREEDOM.

SOMETIMES IT IS THE BEGINNING OF THE SHOW.

Sutherland, Raymond: -

Raymond Sutherland is a British Caribbean author and educator from Salford, England, and the creator of the interconnected VevéVerse universe. His work blends Caribbean spirituality, Celtic mythology, urban fantasy, crime fiction, historical fantasy, and social commentary into mythic stories centred on identity, justice, inheritance, and survival.

Inspired by family, heritage, and the stories of people often forgotten by history, Sutherland's writing explores the emotional and spiritual weight carried across generations. His characters range from spirit marked children and haunted revolutionaries to fighters, kings, vigilantes, and wandering souls navigating worlds shaped by power, grief, mercy, and consequence.

Alongside darker adult works such as the Shadow and Dreadrick stories, he also writes middle grade and young adult novels inspired by his daughters, including Rayah of Dantor and Rivvon. Many of the emotional foundations of the VevéVerse are drawn from his own family, with the character of Obasi inspired by his late father and Mama Elizabeth inspired by his mother.

Blending mythic fantasy with grounded emotional realism, Raymond Sutherland continues to expand the VevéVerse across multiple timelines, genres, and age groups, building a literary universe where spirit, history, culture, and legacy collide.
