Finally published in 1917 and coming in at over 400 pages long, Horace Kephart's Camping and Woodcraft Volume I - Camping is almost universally acknowledged as THE definitive period text on the subject of camping in the old style.

Written as it was during the Golden Age of American camping, this volume is packed with details on tents, sleeping, cooking and camp equipment of all kinds as well as an extensive section on camp cookery. Aside from the nuts and bolts information on what to take, the volume is packed with forgotten wisdom on topics as diverse as camp health and hygeine, keeping and staying dry using cotton and canvas and much, much more.

Although Kephart had previously published The Book of Camping and Woodcraft in 1906, a decade later, in 1916, he released a much revised and expanded edition. This edition was so extensive they had to split it into two separate volumes for easy reading. This volume is an exact replica of the original. Page layout, numbering, table of contents, illustrations and index are identical to the definitive 1917 edition.
