Le cancer du sein est causé par des changements cellulaires qui sont influencés par deux théories. La première théorie est liée aux cellules souches. Les cellules, qui sont créées dès la naissance et placées dans le sein, sous l'effet de facteurs environnementaux, se transforment en cellules cancéreuses au cours d'une période qui peut aller de la jeunesse à la vieillesse. Selon cette théorie, on peut imaginer que si toutes les femmes du monde vivent éternellement, elles finiront par être infectées par ce cancer. La seconde théorie est celle de la mutation génétique, selon laquelle les cellules naturelles de chaque organe, comme le sein, sont affectées par les facteurs environnementaux et se transforment en cellules cancéreuses. Cependant, chacune de ces deux théories du cancer du sein est connue pour être une maladie liée aux gènes, causée par des troubles qui se produisent dans le gène de la cellule, alors que ce cancer n'est pas du tout lié aux gènes, et seulement 7% des cas de cancer du sein sont considérés comme des maladies génétiques. Cela signifie que les parents possèdent un gène spécifique pour le cancer et le transmettent. Le cancer du sein est l'une des maladies les plus fréquemment diagnostiquées chez les femmes, et la connaissance des informations de base à cet égard pour toute femme, même si elle n'est pas infectieuse, est nécessaire en raison de la prévalence et de l'importance de la maladie.
