Sabemos que la familia Kronberger instaló el invento de su paisano Gutemberg a orillas del Guadalquivir, pero pocos recuerdan que de esos pagos salió Juan Pablos para instalar la primera imprenta de América en la ciudad de México y que quizá algún lector distraído llegase a comentar en Nueva España-como lo hizo Gracián en España--esta ficción autobiográfica donde cada personaje lleva en su nombre los símbolos de la trama que se entreteje con Laureola, Leriano, Esperanza, Tranquilidad, Alegría, Galia o Gaulo entre rejas de Deseo... y el enrevesado mundo de los amores.

Se sabe poco de la vida de De San Pedro y se especula por el contenido de sus obras y sus relaciones que se trata de un judío converso, como lo fueron otros destacados autores de la época. Entre sus obras esta tractado de amores de Arnalte y Lucenda una importante obra dedicada a la reina Isabel. Además, escribió Desprecio de la Fortuna, dedicado al rey Enrique IV de Castilla y una serie de poesías, entre las que destaca un extenso poema intitulado La passión trobada dedicado a una monja y publicado en1490.
