At the prestigious Thamesfield Academy, if there is one name on the tip of everyone's tongue, it's 'Carly'. Despite having the face of a beauty queen, to her peers, she has the soul of a demon and certainly gives pretty girls a bad name. So, when the year 11s eagerly arrive at the long-awaited end of year residential, not everyone who is allocated to Room 7 with Carly, is thrilled at the line-up. However, after reconciling differences and the introduction of alcohol, friendships are mended and things finally begin to look up for the occupants of Room 7. But can the past really be forgotten? When a heated discussion reignites old feelings, tempers flare and Chenade finds herself accused of murdering Carly.
Because if everyone saw her do it, then it must be true. Right?
As the first installment in the series, A Thamesfield Academy Drama, this short story tells the lives of 7 British Teens as they recall the events that led to the death of the most popular girl in school. Using British dialogue and a monologued approach, Ny has been able to articulate the 'inner city culture', whilst implementing real-life family and social issues, as well as holding the plot with a great 'who done it' twist.
Jones, Ny M.: - Having already self-published an Amazon Best-Selling Children's Book, 'Dressed in Peace', Ny M Jones has now turned her writing focus to Young Adult Fiction. After a recent invite to her secondary school Whatsapp reunion group and a discussion about childhood reading experiences that ensued, the questions, 'Why did we not read more in our teens and where were all the books with Black British Teen leads?', were raised. Recalling only a handful in the discussion, with Yinka Adebayo's 'Drummond Hill Crew' Series and Malorie Blackman's Noughts and Crosses, a poignant feature, Ny continued her search in her local library and online. She found that despite a surge in the offering of books in the 'Black YA' category, like in her teen years, there were still only a few that had a Black British character list or theme. Another tail of the discussion for many of the non-readers in the group was around the size of books. With no desire to read, many explained that they were often overwhelmed with the thickness of a book and was a huge turn-off in them committing to a read. Armed with this new insight and recollections of stories from her school peers, Ny began to develop characters that were reminiscent of the teens she grew up with, mixed with elements of her own teen experience and those of the teens in her life. She thought a lot about the language they often used, and despite being academic achievers, it felt as if some slang words were 'socially necessary' to effectively communicate. A dialect she coined, 'Articulate-hood'. "It's like the midpoint of Oxford and Kidulthood". Ny M Jones Considering all the above, Ny began to create The Thamesfield Academy Drama, a series of short YA Books, telling the lives of the young British teens that attend the private school, with Carly being the first installment. Also written with a monologued approach, it is here that Ny introduces a group of diverse and unique voices in a great contemporary-mystery story, whilst shedding light on some of the social issues present within this audience today. Having founded an independent publishing company to platform diverse and marginalized voices, Ny has always found it important to create stories that showcase the diversity that was missing from her childhood and the bookshelves of her children. Having successfully supported three authors on to Amazon Bestselling lists, Ny is keen to make 'Paper Pages', the birthplace of undiscovered writers, with the latest author to join being a 12 years old YA writer. Ny also has over 15 years' experience working on various government contracts for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people and adults and is an advocate for social justice reform.
