Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Musik - Sonstiges, Note: 1.3, Hochschule für Musik Köln, Veranstaltung: Opernfilm, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit ist der Versuch einer intermedialen Gegenüberstellung des Werkes Carmen. Die schroffe Kritik infolge der zurückhaltenden Aufnahme des Publikums nach der Uraufführung am 3. März 1875 steht in einem starken Kontrast zu dem bis heute andauernden weltweiten Erfolg der Oper. Beides soll in dieser Arbeit dargestellt werden. In einem ersten Schritt wird kurz auf das Leben des französischen Schriftstellers Prosper Mérimée eingegangen, bevor die Handlung der Novelle Carmen in den Mittelpunkt rückt. In einem zweiten Schritt wird auf das Leben des französischen Komponisten Georges Bizet eingegangen, dann wird die Entstehung sowie die Rezeption der Oper Carmen erläutert. Das Thema der Oper sowie einzelne Schlüsselszenen, welche ich ausgewählt habe, um sie in Bezug auf die Verfilmung Rosis zu analysieren, werden in den folgenden beiden Abschnitten erörtert. Der letzte Teil der Arbeit besteht aus einer Gegenüberstellung der Verfilmung Rosis mit der Oper Bizets. An dieser Stelle möchte ich kurz darauf hinweisen, dass der biographische Teil zu Mérimée und Bizet nicht nur aus Interesse verwendet wird, sondern auch im Hinblick auf das Thema der Gegenüberstellung zu verstehen ist. Zum einen stimmen einige biographische Sachverhalte Mérimées mit der Rolle des Erzählers überein. Zum anderen kann die bereits erwähnte negative Rezeption der Oper Carmen kaum ins richtige Licht gebracht werden, wenn wichtige Details über das Leben des Komponisten Georges Bizet sowie über die Wahrnehmung seiner Werke zu Lebzeiten vernachlässigt werden.
