Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Themengebiet der Regionalentwicklung. "Eine starke Region -...ist wurzeln in einer globalisierten Welt" so lautet der Slogan des Tages der Regionen, einer Initiative in Deutschland, die sich für die Stärkung der Regionen einsetzt. In der heutigen Welt, in der sich alles um Globalisierung und Kostenreduktion durch Outsourcing dreht, um so den Konsum der Industrienationen möglich zu machen, wird der Erfolg der heimischen Wirtschaft und damit auch die Nähe zu eigenen Produkten hinten angestellt. Lange Zeit galt die Exportbasis-Theorie, in der die zentrale Annahme darauf beruht, dass eine Abhängigkeit zwischen regionalem Wirtschaftswachstum und dem Exportsektor besteht, als führender Ansatz. Doch es gab einen Wandel hin zur endogenen Entwicklungstheorie und um diesen Ansatz soll es in dieser Arbeit auch hauptsächlich gehen, mit dem Ziel die Chancen, die sich daraus auf unterschiedliche Art ergeben, zu skizzieren und herauszustellen, das "Aus der Region. Für die Region" durchaus in die heutige Zeit passt und auch gefördert werden sollte. Im Verlauf der Arbeit wird zunächst die grundlegende Theorie der endogenen Regionalentwicklung in Hinblick auf die vorhandenen Entwicklungspotentiale, ihre operative Bestimmung und deren Aktivierung vorgestellt. Im Zuge der Aktivierungsmöglichkeiten wird auf die Theorieansätze des absoluten und komparativen Kostenvorteils mit Beispielen eingegangen. Im Weiteren wird auf die Möglichkeiten zur Chancenentwicklung durch den LEADER-Ansatz, mit eingehender Erklärung dieses Instruments der Europäischen Union (EU) und die Chancen die bei vermehrtem Handel mit regionalen Produkten entstehen, eingegangen. Zum Schluss folgt ein Ausblick der die wichtigsten Fakten der Arbeit noch einmal ins Gedächtnis rufen und zukünftigen Entwicklungen darstellen soll.
