His research examines Chinese society and politics, security, and health. His work appears in leading journals, including International Affairs, Political Geography, Critical Asian Studies, and The Pacific Review, among others. He is the author of China's Soft War on Terror (2022) and Chinese Paradiplomacy at the Peripheries (2024) and has also published extensively in Chinese.
