Ais "Deutscher Chirurgenkalender" wurde dieses Namenverzeichnis deutscher Chirurgen im Jahre 1920 erstmals von August Borchard und Walter von Brunn herausgegeben. Die zweite Auflage folgte 1926, geleitet von den gleichen Herausgebern, bearbeitet von F. Michelsson. Unter der;;elben Redaktion erschien 1938 die dritte Auflage; sie erhielt den Titel "Deutsches Chirurgen-Verzeichnis". 1m Jahre 1958 erweiterte Arthur Hubner die vierte Auflage auf einen grol3eren Kreis deutschsprachiger Chirurgen, - soweit diese der Auf- forderung zur Ausfullung der Fragebogen nachgekommen waren. Das Buch sollte kollegiale Verbindungen mit den Nachbarn enger knupfen und erhielt daher den gekurzten Titel "Chirurgen-Verzeichnis". Vieles hat sich in den darauf folgenden zehn Jahren geandert, junge Chirurgen sind nachgeruckt, zahlreiche Amter und SteIlung.: m sind neu besetzt worden, die Schriftennachweise, denen wir eine besondere Be- deutung beimessen, mul3ten erganzt werden. Daher hat das Prasidium der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Chirurgie mich mit der Herausgabe cler fiinften Auflage beauftragt. Diese neue Auflage bringt neben Namen und Anschriften wieder einen Dberblick uber Werdegang und Weiterbildung sowie uber die wissen- schaftlichen Arbeiten der einzelnen Chirurgen. Dadurch erhalt, das al- phabetisch geordnete Namenverzeichnis den Charakter eines wissen- schaftlich und geschichtlich verwertbaren Nachschlagewerkes, dessen Angaben auf den von den Chirurgen personlich vorgenommenen Ein- tragungen in die Fragebogen beruhen und daher fur Zuverlassigkeit burgen. Nach dem Mitglieder-Verzeichnis der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Chirurgie und den Listen der Landesarztekammern wurden an aIle Chirurgen Fragebogen ver;;chickt., - viele blieben leider unbeantwortet. Diese Chirurgen konnten nur nach den Eintragungen im Mitglieder- Verzeichnis a ufgefuhrt werden.
