Darüber hinaus reflektiert dieser Film aber auch die europäische Kinogeschichte, die Entwicklung des Kinos und auch den krisenhaften Prozess desselben. Um sich der Fragestellung zu nähern, wie das Medium Kino im Film autothematisch reflektiert wird, folgt zunächst eine Inhaltsanalyse. Eine kurze Inhaltsangabe, eine Analyse der Personenkonstellationen und der Zeitstruktur führt dann zur Analyse der filmischen Präsentation, in der sich auf die Bild- und Tongestaltung, die Raumstruktur und die Montage konzentriert wird. Anhand dieser gewonnenen Erkenntnisse soll die fiktionale Thematisierung mit historischen Fakten belegt werden. Um sich den semantischen Feldern zu nähern, wird zunächst auf die Zensur als Einflussfaktor auf das "Cinema Paradiso" eingegangen. Anschlie end wird sich dem Aufkommen des Mediums Fernsehen zugewendet. Führt dieses neue Medium zum Untergang des Kinos? Wie thematisiert Tornatore den Konflikt zwischen Fernsehen und Kino in Cinema Paradiso? Im Anschluss daran soll ein weiteres Augenmerk auf der Reflektion der Kinogeschichte liegen. Wie stellt Tornatore die europäische Kinogeschichte dar? Zum einen soll herausgestellt werden, dass Tornatore Bezug auf die italienische und europäische Filmtradition Referenz nimmt, zum anderen wird untersucht, ob die Darstellung des "Cinema Paradiso" Rückschlüsse auf reale historische Verhältnisse zulässt. Aufgrund der knappen Quellenlage wurde sich auf Darstellungen des deutschsprachigen Raums konzentriert, um Parallelen zwischen der filmischen Darstellungsweise und historischen Fakten zu ziehen.
