Is Professor, Department of Pediatrics, and Principal, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi and was President, Indian Academy of Pediatrics (2021). A renowned academician, teacher, and researcher, he has contributed to more than 300 papers, 450 book chapters, and edited/authored 50 books including PG Textbook of Pediatrics, Essential Pediatric Nursing, and Handbook of Pediatric Drug Therapy.
He is editor-in-chief of the Indian Journal of Practical Pediatrics and Indian Pediatrics, the official journal of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. He is recipient of the prestigious Fellowships by the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH, UK) and Indian National Academy (FAMS), National Neonatology Forum, Indira Gandhi University, etc. for his work on child health. He has received National Award for Teaching and increasing awareness on pneumonia and child care. He is a member of the Technical Expert Committee on pneumonia and children. Dr. Piyush Gupta has served as consultant to WHO, UNICEF, and ICMR, in India. He has served as Chairperson of Technical Expert Group on Childhood Pneumonia and Diarrhea and has been a member of COVID-19 Central Task Force.
He has received “UCMS Lifetime Achievement Award”, “Award for Excellence” by the Vice-President of India, and “Excellence in Pediatrics Award” by the Asia Pacific Pediatric Association. His thrust areas are nutrition, child survival, and medical education.
