Esto nos lleva a asumir un riesgo muy importante, por cuanto una persona puede haber conseguido su título después de numerosos y continuados fracasos, o incluso simplemente por estar en posesión de buena memoria, pero ser incapaz de materializar acertadamente sus conocimientos. El estudiante debe ser, ante todo, observador, incluso un examinador crítico de aquello que le están enseñando, pues no siempre el instructor está acertado en aquello que divulga, e incluso los mismos libros de texto pueden contener errores. Leyendo a otra persona se aprende de su experiencia y posiblemente de sus errores, pero indudablemente supone una ayuda para aprender una materia. No es bueno tomar como dogma las materias académicas que no sean exactas, pues tanto la medicina, como la filosofía o la biología, por poner unos ejemplos, son materias cambiantes y lo que hoy parece cierto mañana puede ser un error. Incluso la astronomía, la física, o la geología se modifican cada década, invalidando muchas de las veracidades antaño consideradas como válidas. El estudiante sabio, por tanto, será aquel que aprenda un método establecido, pues hay que partir de una base, pero una vez que haya pasado la frontera del parvulario académico, debe comenzar a investigar y analizar por su cuenta, a deducir y perfeccionar lo que otros le han enseñado, terminando por convertirse en maestro de su maestro. No es buena, por tanto, la sumisión técnica a los profesores, ni mucho menos considerar que su sabiduría en infinita y sin errores, pues de esta manera el alumno solamente conseguirá ser la sombra de un buen profesor.
