This Third Edition has new graphics and test results. The study considers all popular fiber optic cleaning tools. These include IBC, Sticklers, FerruleMate, CleTop, and QbE products. The work is not intended to draw a conclusion: this is up to the reader. There are "winners and losers" but it's also important to remember that this evaluation is a baseline for your decisions. You will be shown how to use any product and have it work better. There is an important section on IEC Standards and how these ten year documents are outpaced by technology. There are recommendations on how to create your own standard and why this may be important for specific installations in specific geographical locales. Finally, you are invited to submit your "tough nut" problems to be resolved.

The author has more than a decade of direct field experience and numerous product development credits. Formerly employed at ITW Chemtronics, Ed Forrest is considered an SME by peers and contemporaries in the specific area of fiber optic inspection and precision cleaning. His thesis about the three dimensional nature of connectors and the dry debris or fluidic contamination that may cause insertion losses and damage is considered (by many) to exceed existing IEC, TIA, Telcordia and SAE Aerospace standards. He is an inventor with seven patents specifically in the area of precision cleaning fiber optics. He has others pending. He has product marketing, branding and copy writing credits for more than a dozen active products. This work is the 3rd Edition of an original volume published in December-2014.
