Im Verbund mit europ�ischen Hochschulinstituten und industriellen Partnern startete die Technische Universit�t Berlin bereits in den 80er Jahren am Forschungsschwerpunkt FSP-PV Initiativen, um Computer und Kommunikationsnetze f�r Lehre und Lernen einzuf�hren. Schwerpunkt dieser Aktivit�ten ist die Simulation, interaktive Berechnung und Visualisierung von naturwissenschaftlichen Gesetzen und technischen Vorg�ngen. In Abgrenzung zu den Aktivit�ten der 70er Jahre, in denen programmierte Unterweisungen dominierten, ber�cksichtigen neue Entwicklungen kognitive Prinzipien. F�r computergest�tztes Lernen ergeben sich aus der Weiterentwicklung multimedialer F�higkeiten der Computer und ihrer breitbandigen Vernetzung neue Freir�ume der Gestaltung. Insbesondere wird die Veranschaulichung von dynamischen Vorg�ngen und die Visualisierung von abstrakten Sachverhalten beg�nstigt. Die vorliegende Dissertation greift diese technologischen Potentiale auf und definiert die "Offene Lernumgebung", in der ein Lernender im Unterricht, als Unterrichtserg�nzung oder autodidaktisch Wissen erwirbt und dar�ber hinaus den Computer als Werkzeug f�r den gezielten Umgang mit generierten Inhalten oder archiviertem Wissen nutzt. In der offenen Lernumgebung findet er Lernwerkzeuge (Cognitive Tools) und Informationsobjekte, die individuelles und interaktives Handeln zur Erreichung von Lernzielen f�rdern. Innovativ an dieser Arbeit ist insbesondere die ModelIierung der hierzu erforderlichen Teledienste unter Ber�cksichtigung des ISO-Standards "Open Distributed Processing" (OSI-ODP, ITU-X.900). Aktuelle Aktivit�ten bez�glich virtueller universit�rer Lemr�ume profitieren bereits deutlich von den in dieser Dissertation erarbeiteten Konzepten und daraus erarbeiteten Telediensten. Dieentstehende sog. "Virtuelle Universit�t" wird das herk�mmliche Lemangebot um Lernforrnen erg�nzen, die der Informationsgesellschaft angemessen sind. Wir sehen computergest�tztes, vernetztes Lernen in dieser Form als einen besonders aktuellen Beitrag zur Entwicklung der Informationsgesellschaft.
