The new edition of O'Brien's Construction Inspection Handbook, Fourth Edition systematically reinstates the importance of quality control by providing you with a comprehensive quality assurance plan. At the same time, this new Fourth Edition helps ensure that your construction projects meet contract specifications, comply with Construction Specification Institute standards, and conform with legal codes. The book first provides you with the quality assurance plan - a systematic outline of all the procedures you must perform to evaluate project quality. The book's clear, concise explanations of each procedure enable you to conduct thorough inspections in the shortest possible time. Not only does this fourth edition show you how the QA plan is correlated with codes and standards, contract documents, and various legal aspects, it also offers an array of new material on quality trend setters from Frederick Taylor (1885) to W. Edwards Deming (1960's); ISO 9000 - describes the process and discusses how it may or may not serve as the TQM plan; partnering - incorporates a formal process to encourage a win-win cooperative effort to benefit all the stakeholders involved with a construction project; and Total Quality Management - discusses TQM mission statement, implementation plan and specific means of measuring performance. Highly revised and updated the fourth section of the book describes the concept of quality control through which the plan is practically applied. Special aspects of quality control include field testing and field administration as well as a new section on contractor prepared quality control plans. In describing characteristics of the typical construction project, the third section of the text is conveniently organized according to the 16 divisions of the CSI categories. This format enables field inspectors and resident engineers to correlate the handbook directly with a portion of the building contract. In addition, the handbook offers extensive appendices, offering a list of the ASTM standards, legends and abbreviations, and names of organizations relevant to the construction process.
