He has served as a visiting scientist in the Division of Plant Industry at CSIRO; as both a visiting professor in the Department of Genetics and a visiting scholar in the Research School of Biological Sciences at the Australian University; as a visiting professor in the Mathematical Institute at Oxford University, England; and as the Robert Wesson Scholar on Scientific Philosophy and Public Policy at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. An evolutionary biologist concerned especially with theoretical genetics and the development of biological patterns, Professor Cambell also pursues research interests in philosophy of science and analyses of the nonlinear aspects of the natural world
