Was hätte da der Dichter einem Voltaire bedeuten sollen? So schafft sich jede Zeit und Geistesrichtung ihr eigenes Dante- bild. Glücklicherweise nicht mehr nach dem Vorbild der Signoria von Florenz oder des Schutzpatrons der französischen Enzyklopädisten. Immerhin, Dantes Ingenium ist ein Gipfel, der in eigenwilligen For- men hoch genug ragt, um seinen Betrachtern auf verschiedenen Seiten die verschiedensten Anblicke zu gewähren.
