Mit der vorliegenden Abhandlung veröffentlicht die Finanzwirtschaftliche Abtei- lung des Instituts für Mittelstandsforschung eine weitere Untersuchung, die auf der 1965 durchgeführten repräsentativen Befragung von über 1200 Handwerkern in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland beruht und die daraus bisher mitgeteilten Ergeb- 1 nisse ergänzt und erweitert - Diese Untersuchung zeigt einmal die Tatbestände auf, in welcher Art und Weise die Handwerker ihre Betriebe zu finanzieren pflegen, und analysiert zum anderen die wesentlichen Bestimmungsgründe dieses ihres Finanzierungsverhaltens. Die der Arbeit zugrundeliegende Hauptthese, da viele mittelständische Gewerbetreibende eine deutlich andere Einstellung zur Inanspruch- nahme von Fremdmitteln besitzen, als sie dem rational handelnden Unternehmer der Theorie zugeschrieben wird, bestätigt sich eindeutig. Neben ökonomischen zeigten sich dafür in hohem Ma e sozialkulturelle Faktoren, wie die "Finanzie- rungsmentalität" und die Risikobereitschaft der Handwerker verantwortlich. Dar- aus lä t sich schlie en, da eine brauchbare Theorie des Unternehmerverhaltens, zumindest soweit sie auf die mittelständischen Gewerbetreibenden angewandt wer- den soll, auch derartige sozialkulturelle Faktoren mit einbeziehen mu . Die Resonanz auf die erste, im Vorjahr veröffentlichte Untersuchung zur Wirt- schaftsmentalität der westdeutschen Handwerker hat inzwischen gezeigt, da neben einigen verallgemeinernden und unhaltbaren Vorurteilen gegenüber der Forschungsmethode besonders der Einwand erhoben wird, die gewonnenen Ergeb- nisse seien längst bekannt oder könnten zumindest auch ohne umfangreiche em- pirische Forschungen als vorhanden vorausgesetzt werden.
