Das Werkstattbuch Heft 43 liegt in der 5. Auflage vor. Seit Erscheinen der 4. Auflage hat sich das Gebiet der SchweiBtechnik im allgemeinen, das des Licht- bogenschweiBens insbesondere wesentlich erweitert. Es sind neue Verfahren hinzu- gekommen, die alteren Verfahren wurden gerateseitig und vor aHem durch die neuen SchweiBzusatzwerkstoffe erheblich verbessert. Neue Erkenntnisse der Vor- gange beim LichtbogenschweiBen erlauben nun die Anwendung auf Arbeiten, die fruher nicht in Betracht gezogen werden konnten. Um durch diese wichtigen Erweiterungen den gegebenen Buchumfang nicht zu uberschreiten, wurden einige Kapitel, die nicht direkt mit dem LichtbogenschweiBen zusammenhangen, ganz fortgelassen. Kurzungen bei der Besprechung der zu schweiBenden Werkstoffe wurden aus dem gleichen Grunde vorgenommen und daffu auf andere Werkstattbucher hingewiesen. Die Zahl der DIN-Blatter, die sich auf das SchweiBen beziehen, hat sich in letzter Zeit so vermehrt, daB die Aufzahlung aller Blatter unmoglich war (s. DIN-Taschenbuch 8 "SchweiBtechnische Normen und Vorschriften") . Es ist zu hoffen, daB das Buch auch in der neuen Auflage Freunde gewinnt. Fur Hinweise und Verbesserungsvorschlage ist der Verfasser stets dankbar. 1. Allgemeine Begriffe 1.1 Schwei8en. Nach DIN 1910 ist MetallschweiBen ein Vereinigen metallischer Werkstoffe unter Anwendung von Warme oder von Druck oder von beiden, und zwar mit oder ohne Zusetzen von artgleichem Werkstoff (Zusatzwerkstoff) mit gleichem oder nahezu gleichem Schmelzbereich. 1.2 Schwei8barkeit. SchweiBbarkeit bedeutet die Fahigkeit eines Werkstoffes, sich unter gegebenen Bedingungen zu einer schweiBgerechten Konstruktion ver- schweiBen zu lassen nnd dem Verwendungszweck zu genugen.
