Dies ist hauptsiichlich darin be grlindet, daB der Begriff selbst sehr komplexe gesellschaftliche Tatbe stiinde umfaBt, die sich nicht in wenigen verallgemeinemden Siitzen zusammenfassen lassen. Ein kurzer Oberblick liber die verschiedenen Typologien politischer Parteien mag dies verdeutlichen. 1. Typologien politischer Parteien In der Parteienforschung spricht man beispielsweise von Arbeiterpar teien, blirgerlichen und Mittelstandsparteien oder von V olksparteien, womit Aussagen liber die soziale (Wiihler- oder Mitglieder-)Basis getroffen werden, je nachdem, ob eine Partei liberwiegend in einer bestimmten Klasse oder Schicht verankert ist oder ob sich ihre Mitglieder und Wahler in ausgewogener Weise aus mehreren oder allen Klassen bzw. Schichten rekrutieren. Durch die unterschiedlich histo risch gewachsenen soziookonomischen und ideologisch-kulturellen Traditionszonen hangt die soziale Basis einer Partei eng mit ihrer territorialen Basis zusammen. In den protestantischen und groBagrari schen Gebieten des ostelbischen PreuBens vermochte sich beispiels weise der blirgerliche Liberalismus nicht gegen den sozialreaktioniiren Konservatismus durchzusetzen. In den rheinischen Gebieten, die wiihrend der napoleonischen Besetzung und durch die enge Nachbar schaft zum blirgerlich-revolutionaren Frankreich okonomisch und politisch stark durch antifeudalistische Elemente gepriigt waren, ent wickelte sich sehr frlih eine liberale Bewegung, die gerade in den Landtagen von Baden und Wlirttemberg - hier besteht noch heute eine Hochburg des Liberalismus - sehr einfluBreich war."
