Zudem soll sie einen theoretischen Umriss der Entstehungsprozesse und -bedingungen für Volksetymologien liefern. Letztendlich soll der Terminus "Volksetymologie" unter Berücksichtigung der dargestellten Definition, seiner Abgrenzung und seiner Entstehungsprozesse und -bedingungen und in Hinblick auf seine kontrovers diskutierte Verwendung und Definition kritisch reflektiert werden. "Es zieht wie Hechtsuppe" ist eine Redewendung der deutschen Sprache, dessen Bedeutung und Inhalt dem Sprachbenutzer klar und schlüssig ist. Was aber hat die "Hechtsuppe" in der Redewendung damit zu tun, dass den Sprachnutzer, der diese benutzt, eine starke Zugluft stört. Auch was ein "Maulwurf" ist, wie dieser aussieht, usw. wei eigentlich jeder, aber warum er wirklich so hei t und woher der Begriff kommt ist für den Gro teil der Sprachbenutzer unklar. Wie in den beiden einleitenden Beispielen klar wird, gibt es (Sprich-)Wörter, Phrasen und Redewendungen in der Verwendung der deutschen Sprache, die zwar jedem klar und geläufig sind, dessen Bestandteile und (vermeintliche) Herkunft für den Sprachbenutzer jedoch (teilweise) nur schwer einen Sinn ergeben. Man erwischt sich selber dabei diese Wörter irgendwie nach üblichen Wortbildungskriterien und -ableitungen, nach vermeintlicher Logik und allgemeinem Sprach- und Weltwissen herzuleiten. Dies ist jedoch meistens ein unmögliches Unterfangen. Verantwortlich für die Entstehung solcher Wörter und Phrasen ist nämlich das Phänomen "Volksetymologie".
