Zu den bedeutendsten und konstantesten Motiven im literarischen Schaffen Stanislaw Przybyszewskis (1868-1927) und insbesondere in seiner Dramatik gehört der Tod. Insofern ist es verwunderlich, dass dieses Motiv in der Forschung bislang nur am Rande Berücksichtigung fand. Adam Jarosz untersucht das Todesmotiv in Przybyszewskis Dramenschaffen in seinen verschiedenen strukturellen, semantischen und funktionalen Bezügen, wobei hierzu eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Symbol-Auffassung des Dichters, seiner Geschlechtsmetaphysik und seinem Todesverständnis unabdingbar ist - unter Berücksichtigung der Natur-, Farben-, Pflanzen- und Dingsymbolik, symbolischer Gestalten und Zeichen sowie von Musik und Tanz.Die Analyse der Symbole ist von umso grö erer Tragweite, als der Tod in Przybyszewskis Dramen nahezu ausschlie lich in symbolischen Repräsentationen zum Vorschein kommt. Besonders augenfällig wird dies an dem wiederholt in Erscheinung tretenden Motiv des Parks, der entgegen seiner traditionellen literarischen Bedeutung bei Przybyszewski vorwiegend als eine Art Übergangsraum fungiert. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit dem Motiv des Teichs, der sich meist als eine geradezu überdimensionale Kraft erweist. Bemerkenswert ist auch die beinahe durchgängige Verwendung von symbolischen Gestalten wie auch von 'Katalysatorfiguren'. Freilich hat die symbolische Repräsentation des Motivs nicht zur Folge, dass der Tod in den Dramen Przybyszewskis in 'abgeschwächter' oder 'entschärfter' Form auftritt. Eine Sonderstellung nimmt letztlich das Element Wasser ein. All diese Fragen werden in den Kontext der europäischen Moderne gestellt, innerhalb derer Przybyszewski eine ebenso herausragende wie spezifische Rolle einnimmt.
