Es stellt sich die Frage, was Wissenschaft eigentlich beabsichtigt und welchen unverzichtbaren Wert sie einer moderner Gesellschaft bringt. Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, soll ein Vortrag von Max Weber aus dem Jahr 1917 untersucht werden, in dem er das Wesen von Wissenschaft und den Auftrag von Wissenschaftlern reflektiert. Data Science als Methode der quantitativen Analytik hat wachsende praktische Relevanz, da sie dazu beitragen kann, fundierte Einsichten in unterschiedliche Sachverhalte zu erlangen und sowohl strategische als auch operative Unternehmensentscheidungen ma geblich zu verbessern. Die Verbindung zwischen wissenschaftlicher Methodik und unternehmerischer Praxis wird dabei immer enger und inklusiver, was zu einer rationaleren Form des Managements führt. Zeitgemä es Management erfordert ein Verständnis wissenschaftlicher Erkenntniswege, um in komplexen Märkten erfolgreich zu handeln. Im Rahmen des Vortrags von Max Weber werden verschiedene Fragen zur Aufgabenstellung und dem Auftrag von Wissenschaft beantwortet, die auch für Data Science von Relevanz sind.
