Daher sollte sich jeder auf dem Gebiet der Informationsverarbeitung Tiitige auch mit der Informationsubertragung und mit Datenverbundsystemen vertraut machen. Die Benutzung elektrischer Signale hat es seit uber 100 Jahren moglich gemacht, Informa- tionen sehr schnell auch uber groBe Entfernungen zu ubertragen. Die dazu geschaffenen Netze waren aber reine Obertragungsnetze, die mehr oder weniger direkt Menschen mit Menschen verbanden. Die heutige Datenubertragung verbindet informationsverarbeitende Systeme mit informationsverarbeitenden Systemen; auch die Obertragungssysteme seiber enthalten Datenverarbeitungsanlagen. Datenverbundsysteme konnen uns in unterschiedlicher Form entgegentreten, vom An- schluB eines Terminals an die Zentraleinheit im gleichen Raum bis zum weltweiten System; vom Datensammelsystem zur Erfassung von Betriebsdaten bis zum internationa- len Datenbank-Informationssystem. Das OSI-Modell der internationalen Normungsorgani- sation ISO hat erstmals versucht, aile Aspekte zu erfassen und systematisch zu gliedern. Angelehnt an dieses Modell beschreibt das Buch sowohl Aspekte der Datenfernuber- tragung wie auch der Datenfernverarbeitung, ohne dabei Volistiindigkeit anzustreben. Es folgt im Mittelteil (Kapitel 3-7) dem Aufbau des OSI-Modells. In den beiden ersten Kapi- teln werden ein Oberblick uber den Sinn von Datenverbundsystemen und die physikalisch- technischen Grundlagen der Datenubertragung gegeben.
