Die DGfE veröffentlicht seit 2000 im zweijährigen Turnus jeweils zum Datum des Kongresses einen Datenreport. Ziel des Datenreports ist es, die Situation im Fach Erziehungswissenschaft darzustellen. Die Datenreporte sollen nicht v- handene Rankings, die von verschiedenster Seite mit unterschiedlichen Fra- stellungen bzw. Schwerpunkten erstellt und veröffentlicht werden, ergänzen oder korrigieren. Vielmehr wird angestrebt, eine Berichterstattung über das Fach und Entwicklungen des Faches über die Zeit zu gewährleisten. Bisher sind im ersten und im dritten Datenreport eher die gro en Linien in der Entwicklung des Faches verfolgt worden, d. h. Absolventenzahlen, die Frage des Übertritts in den Beruf, Studiengänge und Studienorte sind dokumentiert worden. Im zweiten Daten- port sind im Unterschied dazu spezifischere Themen aufgegriffen worden. Der nunmehr vorgelegte vierte Datenreport schlie t von Gestaltung und Inhalt her eher an den zweiten Datenreport an, greift aber zusätzlich einen Impuls auf, der im dritten Datenreport vertreten war, den Blick über die Grenzen. Indem E- wicklungen in Gro britannien und teilweise den USA einbezogen werden, wird ein neues Bezugssystem in die Bilanzierungen einbezogen. Datenreporte sind von der Themenwahl und von ihrer Gestaltung her mit Notwendigkeit selektiv. Es kann beispielsweise nur über Tatbestände informiert werden, für die sich auch Daten gewinnen lassen. Viele Entwicklungen im Fach, deren Darstellung wünschenswert wäre, lassen sich in Datenreporten - zum- dest bisher - nicht angemessen präsentieren. Dennoch haben Datenreporte einen eigenen Wert, weil sie ein Versuch sind, die Situation eines Faches von innen her zu beschreiben.
