Protagonista de hitos claves de nuestra historia, comenz� como un destacado dirigente juvenil, presidente de la FECH y muy joven fue parlamentario democratacristiano durante el gobierno de Frei Montalva, donde patrocin� la "v�a no capitalista de desarrollo", con la Reforma Agraria y el cambio educativo. Impuls� la formaci�n de la Izquierda Cristiana (IC), apoy� al gobierno de la Unidad Popular y fue estrecho colaborador del presidente Allende como ministro de las carteras de Miner�a y de Vivienda. Padeci� la represi�n de la dictadura siendo confinado en la isla Dawson, y luego recluido durante varios a�os en diversas prisiones a lo largo de Chile. Parti� al exilio en Venezuela para retornar al pa�s en plena dictadura y pasar a ser uno de los primeros dirigentes p�blicos de la izquierda, juzgado y encarcelado por promover las demandas democr�ticas. Fue embajador de Chile en la Venezuela de Maduro, donde como diplom�tico debi� afrontar la crisis democr�tica y la proscripci�n de opositores. Un relato de gran valent�a y transparencia que aborda episodios in�ditos de este tramo decisivo de nuestra historia y no escatima una dimensi�n privada del autor en la defensa de su orientaci�n sexual en tiempos que significaban una irremediable marginaci�n social.
