Daraus lassen sich mehrere Teilziele ableiten. Zum einen soll die Deconstruction-Entwicklung im Lichte verschiedener Theorien betrachtet werden und gleichzeitig die Erklärungskraft der ausgewählten theoretischen Ansätze geprüft werden. Hier ist zu beachten, dass die optimale Leistungstiefe und damit auch ihre Veränderung im Zeitablauf grundsätzlich immer spezifische Aspekte einzelner Branchen bzw. Unternehmen aufweist. Dennoch soll hier eine generische Betrachtung im Vordergrund stehen. Ferner kann und soll nicht die ganze Vielfalt der in der Literatur im Zusammenhang mit der Leistungstiefen-Entscheidung diskutierten Variablen einbezogen werden.4 Vielmehr erfolgt eine Konzentration auf diejenigen Variablen, deren Veränderungen im Zeitablauf einen Erklärungsbeitrag zur Deconstruction-Entwicklung leisten.5 Weiterhin sollen auf Grund der zeitunabhängigen Gültigkeit der Prämisse gewinnmaximierenden Verhaltens seitens der Unternehmen besonders diejenigen Faktoren ausgeklammert werden, die allein mit dem Hinweis auf eine zunehmende Wettbewerbsintensität die empirisch vorzufindende Tendenz zur Verringerung der Leistungstiefe zu erhellen vermögen.6 Gleichwohl kann dem zunehmenden Wettbewerbsdruck regelmä ig eine verstärkende Wirkung beigemessen werden. Ein weiteres Teilziel ist die kritische Hinterfragung der Annahmen und Aussagen des BCGKonzepts.
