This text addresses what it really means to be culturally competent in nursing practice. As representatives of specific cultural, racial, ethnic, and sociopolitical groups, nurses bring their own values, beliefs, and attitudes to all interactions with patients and with one another. Kersey-Matusiak, Gloria: -

Dr. Kersey-Matusiak is Professor Emerita and former Coordinator for Diversity at Holy Family University. She is a registered nurse educator who has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in Nursing. Dr. Kersey-Matusiak was the 2016 recipient of the Christian R and Mary F. Lindback Award for Teaching Excellence at Holy Family.

Currently, Dr. Kersey-Matusiak serves as an adjunct in the Health Science Program at St. Joseph's University, teaching Medical Terminology, Health and the School-Aged Child, Leadership and Diversity in Healthcare.
