Hierzu werde ich zunächst auf die demographische Entwicklung in Deutschland und statistische Daten zu Demenz eingehen. Im Folgenden beschäftige ich mich näher mit dem Krankheitsbild Demenz, typischen Symptomen und dem allgemeinen Krankheitsverlauf. Im dritten Teil setze ich mich dem Person-zentrierten Ansatz von Tom Kitwood, seinen Grundlagen und Möglichkeiten auseinander. In schlie e meine Arbeit mit einem Fazit, in dem ich knapp meine Gedanken zum Thema Demenz und dem "neuen Paradigma" von Kitwood reflektiere. Durch die Lebensbedingungen in modernen Gesellschaften ist "das Alter" zu einem Lebensabschnitt geworden, den heutzutage die meisten Menschen erreichen und auch immer mehr Menschen treten in die Lebensphase der Hochaltrigkeit1 ein.
