Heutzutage k nnen die Menschen allerdings nicht mehr allzu viel mit ihm anfangen, was bereits an diversen Diskussionen ersichtlich ist. Man redet gerne ber die Helden, die Hauptpersonen und was sie getan und warum sie das getan haben. Aber welche Rolle spielt eigentlich der Chor? Ist er auch als dramatis persona von Bedeutung oder helfen die Chorlieder nur dabei, den Inhalt des St ckes besser zu verstehen? Etliche Forscher sind der Ansicht, dass gerade bei Euripides "der Chor (...) im Vergleich mit Aischylos und Sophokles von geringer Bedeutung f r das jeweilige St ck zu sein (scheint)." Aber ist das wirklich so? K nnte man tats chlich aus gewissen Trag dien des Euripides die "Chor-Szenen" herausstreichen, ohne dass dies erheblich etwas ndern w rde? M glicherweise ist dies zu drastisch ausgedr ckt. Jedoch hei t es auch bei Herwig Brandt, der "Chor, dem es als Figurengruppe an Beweglichkeit fehlt, mu zur cktreten." Ob der Chor nun Einfluss auf die Handlung, bzw. die anderen Personen hat, sei erst einmal dahingestellt. Wie hoch sein Wirken ist und wie sehr er als tragendes Element in den jeweiligen Geschichten zur Geltung kommt, ist gewisserma en erst die zweite Frage. Als erste Frage sollte stets gestellt werden, was ist das Anliegen einer Person X. (In diesem Falle entspricht X dem Chor.) Welche Stellung nimmt X ein, wonach strebt X? Und schlie lich: Hat X letztendlich Erfolg? Betrachtet man sich den Chor bei Euripides, gelangt man unweigerlich zu der Erkenntnis, dass er bei nahezu allen Trag dien auf der Seite der weiblichen Hauptperson ist. Wie bereits erl utert: Ob er den jeweiligen Frauen eine St tze ist oder ob es in seiner Macht steht, ihnen zu helfen, ist in diesem Fall erst einmal zweitrangig.
