Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europas - Mittelalter, Fr�he Neuzeit, Note: 2,0, Universit�t Duisburg-Essen (Institut f�r Geisteswissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Die Staufer, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Jahr 1198 nimmt in der mittelalterlichen Geschichte eine besondere Stellung ein, denn in diesem Jahr ist nicht nur der Staufer, Philipp von Schwaben, nach dem Tod seines Bruders bzw. Kaisers Heinrich VI., zum K�nig gew�hlt worden, sondern auch der Welfe, Otto von Braunschweig (auch: Otto von Poitou), der Sohn Heinrich des L�wen. Im selben Jahr wurde zudem Innozenz III., dem die Kirche ihren Machtzuwachs verdankte, als Nachfolger Coelestins III. zum Papst gew�hlt. In den Jahren zuvor versuchte Heinrich VI., der mit Konstanze von Sizilien verheiratet war, das Deutsche Reich von einer Wahlmonarchie zu einer Erbmonarchie umzugestalten, um die deutsche K�nigsw�rde f�r seinen Sohn Friedrich II. zu sichern. Das Normannenreich war bereit eine Erbmonarchie, somit war in Sizilien die Krone f�r Friedrich II. gesichert. Mit der Idee des Erbreichplans sollte die Verbindung zwischen dem Imperium und dem sizilischen Regnum dauerhaft werden. Aus Furcht von den Staufern umzingelt zu werden, lehnte Papst Coelestin III. Heinrichs Plan ab. Auch die deutschen F�rsten sowie Erzbischof von K�ln, Adolf von Altena, der zuvor f�r die Zeit des Kreuzzuges die Zust�ndigkeit f�r alle Reichsangelegenheiten vom Erzbischof Konrad von Mainz �bertragen worden war, reagierten mit heftigen Protesten. Bereits zu Lebzeiten lie Heinrich seinen zweij�hrigen Sohn Friedrich zum deutschen Mitk�nig w�hlen. Philipp von Schwaben, der Bruder des Kaisers und Onkel des jungen Friedrichs, zog noch im selben Jahr nach Italien, um seinen Neffen im Auftrag des Kaisers zur K�nigskr�nung von Foligno nach Aachen zu bringen.
