Atomzertrümmerung, Raketen, Wunderwaffen - mit diesen Mitteln erhofften sich die Autoren der deutschen Zukunftsromane in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts nicht nur Deutschland, sondern auch die ganze Welt zu retten. Pate stand die Technokratiebewegung, die zwar einerseits mit Gewalt die Interessen Deutschlands und der wei en Rasse durchsetzen, aber andererseits jegliche politischen und ökonomischen Zwänge abschaffen wollte. Die Nationalsozialisten betrachteten die Technokraten mit Skepsis und diese konnten wiederum mit deren Antisemitismus und Führergedanken nicht viel anfangen. Aufgrund der Ausgestaltung des deutschen Buchmarkts im 'Dritten Reich', die der Unterhaltungsliteratur relativ viel Spielraum lie , konnten die Zukunftsromane jedoch ihre Traditionen aus der Weimarer Zeit ungeachtet der politischen Lage fortführen und weiterentwickeln. Dies ist das Ergebnis der Untersuchung, die sich als allgemeine Beschreibung der gattungstypischen Szenarien und Handlungsebenen versteht. Mit Hilfe dieser Typologie kann die Studie im Gegensatz zur bisherigen Forschung belegen, dass der deutsche Zukunftsroman sich durchaus eine gewisse Eigenständigkeit gegenüber den Nationalsozialisten bewahrte. So richtete er sich in einer Nische ein, die den Grundstein zur deutschen Science Fiction der Nachkriegszeit bildete.
