About The Author

Vladimir Solov'ev wird 1853 als Sohn einer Gelehrtenfamilie geboren. Nach dem Schulbesuch studiert er zunächst zwei Jahre Naturwissenschaften, wechselt dann aber zur Philosophie an der Moskauer Geistlichen Akademie. 1874 promoviert er mit der Schrift Krise der westlichen Philosophie, die schon den Umriß seiner Religionsphilosophie und die Suche nach der vollkommenen inneren Einheit der geistigen Welt aufzeigt. Die Dissertation findet außergewöhnlich positive Aufnahme und verhilft ihm zu einer sofortigen Anstellung an der Moskauer Universität. Während eines Aufenthaltes in London arbeitet Solov'ev für ein Jahr am Britisch Museum über antike und asiatische Philosophie. Die vollständigste Darstellung seines Systems liefert er 1878 mit den Vorlesungen über das Gottmenschentum, worin er die Synthese von Wissenschaft, Philosophie und Religion als Grundlage kultureller Erneuerung vorstellt. Der Sinn der Liebe erscheint 1896. Solov'ev sieht in der Unbedingtheit des leidenschaftlichen Verlangens der sinnlichen Liebe ein Geschehen der unbedingten Anerkennung des geliebten Menschen und damit ein Fundament der Ethik. Der Sinn der Liebe ist in der Vervollkommnung und in der "Rettung der Individualität durch die Opferung des Egoismus" des Menschen zu sehen. Das Werk hat beträchtliche Wirkung bei der russischen Intelligenz der Jahrhundertwende, wird aber in den Wirren der russischen Revolution nahezu vergessen. Vladimir Solov'ev stirbt 1900 an einem Nierenleiden in Uskoe bei Moskau.
