Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Kunst - Uebergreifende Betrachtungen, Note: 1,3, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Institut für Kunstgeschichte), Veranstaltung: Proseminar: Prachtcodices - Hauptwerke der früh- und hochmittelalterlichen Buchmalerei, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Um 820/ 830 entstand der Stuttgarter Bilderpsalter, der mangels näherer Kenntnisse über seinen Entstehungskontext, die Künstler beziehungsweise Künstlerwerkstatt oder etwaige Auftraggeber nach seinem Aufbewahrungsort benannt wurde. In der Landesbibliothek von Baden-Württemberg (Bibl. fol. 23) in Stuttgart befindet sich seit mehr als 200 Jahren die Handschrift, die aufgrund der reichen Ausstattung mit 316 farbigen Bildern und mehr als 470 biblischen Einzelszenen, die den Text auf 340 Pergamentseiten schmücken, illustrieren und kommentieren, den Zusatz Bilderpsalter erhielt. Seine Pergamentblätter sind in Holzdeckel mit Schafsleder eingebunden und weisen heute einen sehr unterschiedlichen Erhaltungszustand auf. Auf 26,5 auf 17,5 cm messenden Seiten mit einem sehr unregelmä igen Schriftspiegel enthält der Psalter in lateinischer Sprache die gallikanische Fassung der 150 Psalmen des Alten Testaments, die, nachdem sie in den ersten Jahrhunderten des jungen Christentums nur zur Lesung verwandt wurden, dann dem zentralen gottesdienstlichen Gesang sowohl in der Messe als auch im kirchlichen Stundengebet dienten. Da die Psalmen zudem in den Antwortgesängen der Lesung und bei Prozessionen, der Kirchweihe und den Gebeten für Kranke und Tote Anwendung fanden, rückten sie neben dem Evangeliar an eine zentrale Stelle im christlichen Gottesdienst5. Obgleich in dem Psalter an keiner Stelle ein Hinweis auf seine Herkunft oder seinen Entstehungskontext gegeben wird, gilt es inzwischen in der Forschung als erwiesen, dass das Kloster St. Germain-des-Prés in der Nähe von Paris als Entstehungsort bezeichnet werden kann, wenn auch die Frage nach dem Auftraggeber oder der Provenienz noch immer ungek
