"Wir sind mitten in einem Umwälzungs- und Verwandlungs-, Veränderungsprozess der so gewaltig ist wie der von der Agrargesellschaft in die Industriegesellschaft." Dieses Zitat von Wolff Lotter aus dem Film "Stille Revolution" wirkt zunächst utopisch. Bei näherer Betrachtung wird die Aktualität dieser Behauptung jedoch allgegenwärtig und es erhärtet sich, bei fundierter Betrachtung, der Eindruck, dass die Allgegenwärtigkeit und der Realitätsgehalt höher erscheinen, als man auf den ersten Eindruck vermuten mag. Auch der Autor Richard Barrett sieht Unternehmensführung einem fundamentalen Wandel ausgesetzt. Durch gesellschaftliche und ökonomische Veränderungsprozesse wird der Prozess der Wertschöpfung bzw. die Generierung von Werten, was seit jeher den Sinn eines Unternehmens repräsentiert, zunehmend diffiziler und vor neue Herausforderungen gestellt.
