Design for Living is a comedic play written by Noel Coward, which was first performed in 1933. The play is set in Paris and follows the lives of three bohemian artists, Gilda, Otto, and Leo, who are all in love with each other. The play explores their unconventional relationship as they navigate their individual artistic careers and the challenges of their unique romantic situation. The play is divided into three acts, each representing a different period in the characters' lives. Act One introduces the characters and their relationships, Act Two takes place a year later and explores the consequences of their decisions, and Act Three brings the characters back together after a few years have passed. Throughout the play, Coward uses witty dialogue and satire to comment on the societal norms of the time, particularly regarding relationships and morality. The play was considered scandalous when it was first performed due to its frank discussion of sexuality and unconventional relationships.
