Wer heute gar von eiserner Disziplin spricht, steht im Verdacht, mit jener bedingungslosen Unterordnung zu liebäugeln, die von den Nationalsozialisten als Disziplin und typisch deutsche Tugend propagiert wurde. Der Nationalsozialismus als geschichtliches Phänomen soll im Folgenden unter den Begriffen von Disziplin und Disziplinargesellschaft nach Foucault erörtert werden. Unter der "Zeit des Nationalsozialismus" soll die historische Periode zwischen 1933 und 1945 verstanden werden, wobei sicher auch noch Unterschiede in der Thematik innerhalb des Zeitraums zu verzeichnen sind. Der wahrscheinlich grö te Widerspruch des Nationalsozialismus ist die Diskrepanz zwischen Rationalität und der irrationalen, exzessiven Gewalt andererseits. 1 Daraus ergibt sich die Frage, wie Irrationalität und Funktionalität zusammenwirken. Um dieser Frage nachzugehen, ist es notwendig, vorherrschende Machtstrukturen zu untersuchen und sie als Dynamik von Gewaltexzessen sowie den allgemeinen Hang zur Gewaltbereitschaft zu analysieren. Als Motivation kommt nicht nur eine rein Politische in Frage, es müssen dabei auch persönliche Interessen im Spiel gewesen sein. In der Forschung ist klar, dass die Verbrechen des Nationalsozialismus nicht nur aus einer bestimmten politischen Elite heraus erklärbar sind, die durch geschickte Propaganda und Manipulation das Volk gewinnen konnte. Allein durch Propaganda wäre es eher unwahrscheinlich gewesen, das eine Ideologie in so vehementer Weise in ein soziales Feld eindringen und eine so starke Wirkung auslösen kann. Hinter den Verbrech
