Dennoch wird dieser Beitrag meistens nicht oder nur sehr eingeschränkt wahrgenommen. Dieses Buch zeigt deshalb die tatsächliche Rolle eines kranken Menschen in der Gesellschaft auf. Dabei betrachtet es zunächst die unterschiedlichen Einstellungen kranker Menschen in ihrer Krankheit und wie das unmittelbare Umfeld auf sie reagiert. So kommt der Autor zu einem praktischen Kommunikationsmodell für Pflegekräfte. Der kranke und sterbende Mensch ist und kann, in der Familie und im Gesundheitswesen selbst, ein Schöpfer neuer personalen Interaktionen (Dialogprozesse) sein. In diesem Zusammenhang sind dem Autor zwei Faktoren von besonderer Wichtigkeit: die Rolle der Familie und ihre Einstellung zu kranken Menschen. Es ist ein wichtiges Ziel pflegerischen Tuns, Andere wahrzunehmen, zu beobachten und zu beurteilen. Häufig hilft einer Pflegekraft die Mimik eines Patienten bei dieser Beurteilung. Der Gesichtsausdruck eines Patienten kann beispielsweise die Intensität von Schmerzen anzeigen (die manchmal von dem abweicht, was er sagt), und seine Gesten können die Art seiner inneren körperlichen Empfindungen veranschaulichen. Im pflegerischen Bereich könnte es sein, dass sich die Genauigkeit der pflegerischen Beobachtung verbessern würde, wenn man der nonverbalen Kommunikation mehr Beachtung schenken würde. Die engere Einbeziehung der nonverbalen Kommunikation in den Pflegealltag wird die Gestaltung der Pflegebeziehung und des Dialogprozesses noch ein wenig besser und effektiver machen. Das Verständnis für die Art und Weise, in welcher der individuelle Pflegebedürftige kommuniziert, veranlasst eine intensivpflegerische Betreuung, die nicht nur medizinisch notwendige Ma nahmen ausführt, sondern den Patienten in seiner individuellen Bedarfssituation umf
