Dafür wird die Analyse nachfolgend in fünf Abschnitte untergliedert. Im ersten Schritt gilt es zunächst zu erläutern, welche Merkmale kennzeichnend für Wähler rechtspopulistischer Parteien sind. Der Fokus liegt hierbei vor allem auf sozioökonomische sowie demographische Charakteristika von Wählern rechtspopulistischer Parteien aus dem westeuropäischen Raum. Damit wird ein Profil für Wähler rechtspopulistischer Parteien erstellt, womit eine Referenz für die spätere Analyse der AfD-Wählerschaft zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Nachdem ein Wählerprofil von Befürwortern rechtspopulistischer Parteien ausgearbeitet wurde, widmet sich der nächste Abschnitt dieser Arbeit der AfD. Hierbei werden zunächst die historische Entwicklung der AfD und ihre Wendepunkte aufgezeigt. Ähnlich verfährt es sich im vierten Abschnitt dieser Arbeit, in dem die Wählerschaft der AfD und ihre Wandlung in Betracht gezogen werden. Dabei wird, um eine bessere Übersichtlichkeit und genauere Untersuchung zu gewährleisten, die Entwicklung in chronologische Phasen aufgeteilt. Die chronologische Aufteilung soll dabei unterstützend bei der Ermittlung möglicher Entwicklungstendenzen mitwirken. Im fünften Abschnitt gilt es dann, die AfD-Wählerschaft einzuordnen und die Frage zu beantworten, ob sich diese im Laufe der Zeit dem zuvor ausgearbeiteten, typischen Wählerprofil rechtspopulistischer Parteien angenähert hat. Dazu wird das im vorherigen bAbschnitt ausgearbeitete Wählerprofil rechtspopulistischer Parteien mit dem aktuellen Wählerprofil der AfD verglichen und dabei untersucht, ob sich die zwei Wählerprofile gleichen bzw. über die Zeit angenähert haben.
