Und das in einer Weise, die im internationalen Vergleich besonders stark ausgeprägt zu sein scheint. Allenthalben wird deshalb sogar von der "German-Angst" gesprochen. Was viele Deutsche gegenwärtig (wieder) besonders beunruhigt ist die Sorge vor Inflation. Laut einer Studie des Meinungsforschungsinstituts TNS infratest, die im Auftrag der Allianz Bank durchgeführt wurde, teilen fast die Hälfte der Befragten die Furcht vor dem Wertverlust ihres Vermögens. Wer allerdings glaubt, dass dieser Befund neu ist, der irrt. Die Angst der Deutschen vor Inflation reicht weit in die Geschichte zurück und hat ihre Wurzeln insbesondere in der Hyperinflation von 1923. Während dieser Zeit kam es zu einer drastischen Geldentwertung, die besonders für Sparer sehr schmerzhaft war. Die hohe Inflation führte schlie lich zu einem Einbruch der Wirtschaftsleistung und zu einem starken Anstieg der Arbeitslosenzahl. Gegenwärtig hat die Inflationsangst der Menschen in Deutschland aber auch in anderen Ländern der Eurozone insbesondere durch die "Euro-Krise" und die expansive Geldpolitik der Europäischen Zentralbank (EZB) neue Nahrung bekommen (Vgl. Kapitel 2.2). Als Reaktion auf die hohe Staatsverschuldung im Euro-Raum senkte die EZB den Leitzins auf ein historisches Tief von derzeit 0,75 Prozent. Als weitere Ma nahme hat die oberste Zentralbank in der Europäischen Union Staatsanleihen von hochverschuldeten Ländern im Euroraum (z.B. Griechenland) aufgekauft. Die Befürworter dieser expansiven Geldpolitik sehen darin einen wichtigen Schritt zur Ankurbelung der Wirtschaft im Euroraum.
