Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Geschichte Deutschlands - Nachkriegszeit, Kalter Krieg, Note: 1,5, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit zeigt in einem kurzen Überblick, inwieweit die Fehnstadt und seine Einwohner mit den Verbrechen des Nationalsozialismus in Verbindung standen. Danach werden die Ereignisse des Kriegsendes in Papenburg und die Ausgangslage (Zerstörungen, Wohnraumsituation etc.) in der Fehnstadt dargestellt. Um die sogenannten "Displaced Persons (DPs)" geht es schlie lich im ersten Hauptteil der Arbeit. Nachdem geklärt wurde, warum sich überhaupt so viele polnische DPs im Emsland aufhielten, soll deren Aufnahme in Papenburg näher beleuchtet werden (Evakuierung und Besetzung von Lagern und Siedlungen, Versorgung und Verwaltung, Wohnungsnot, "DP-Kriminalität", Schulwesen und kulturelle Aspekte etc.). Der zweite Hauptteil beschäftigt sich mit den zahlreichen Flüchtlingen und Vertriebenen aus den deutschen Ostgebieten, die auch schon vor Kriegsende nach Papenburg kamen. Anfangs wird rekonstruiert, wie und warum Reichs- und Volksdeutsche überhaupt in den Westen Niedersachsens kamen, obwohl der Osten des Landes prinzipiell weitaus beliebter war und demgemä viel stärker von Flüchtlingen und Vertriebenen aufgesucht wurde. Nachfolgend wird deren Unterbringung in Papenburg thematisiert, die hauptsächlich in vorhandenem Wohnraum bei Einheimischen erfolgte. Aufgrund der beengten Wohnsituation waren Konflikte, die über Jahre Bestand haben sollten, vorprogrammiert. Ein kleinerer Teil der Flüchtlinge und Vertriebenen wurde auch in Lagern untergebracht, von denen es vier in Papenburg gab. Im Anschluss daran soll Auskunft darüber gegeben werden, wer für die Betreuung der Flüchtlinge zuständig war und in welcher Form deren (politischen) Interessen vertreten werden konnten. Für die Papenburger Schulen war die zusätzliche Aufnahme von Flüchtlingskindern eine besondere Herausforderung. Auch die Kirchenlandschaft
