Die nachfolgende Berechnung der Centrifugalregulatoren unter- scheidet sich in zweifacher Richtung wesentlich von der bisherigen Behandlung dieser Aufgabe: 1. Die synthetische, aufbauende Methode ist vollständig durch- geführt; sowohl der Einfluss jeder einzelnen der im Regulator wirk- samen Kräfte - des Kugelgewichts und des Gleitstückgewichts bezw. bei Federregulatoren der Federspannung - auf die Grösse und die Aenderung der Winkelgeschwindigkeit ist für sich festgestellt, als auch die Bedeutung der Abweichung des zur Gleitstückbewegung benutzten Getriebes von dem normalen Getriebe ist klargelegt worden. 2. Die sämmtlichen Gleichgewichtsbedingungen sind nicht durch Kräftezerlegung (statisch), sondern mit Hülfe von Arbeitsbestimmun- gen (dynamisch) entwickelt worden. Diese letzte Methode gestattet eine viel grössere ]i'reiheit und giebt die Resultate in einer dem Verständniss leichter zugänglichen Weise (vergl. die Untersuchung des unnormalen Getriebes, des Regulators mit beweglichem Auf- hängepunkt des Pendels, des Einflusses der Reibung in den Gelen- ken des Regulators). Eine Frucht der synthetischen Behandlung der Regulatoren siIid die in den Tafeln I bis VI verzeichneten Kurven. Mit Hülfe der Tafeln I und II können alle Gewichtsregulatoren mit normalem Getriebe berechnet werden. Eine Frucht der dynamischen Behandlung ist die neue Be- rechnung der Regulatoren mit Doppelpendel. Es wäre zu wünschen, dass dadurch das Verständniss für den Cosinus-Regulator, dessen "Werthigkeit" eine vorzügliche ist, mehr gefördert würde. Vorwort. IV Entsprechend der heutigen Bedeutung der Achsenregulatoren ist die Wirkungsweise und die Berechnung derselben eingehend behandelt. Um die Rechnungen durchsichtiger zu erhalten, sind in denselben kugel- oder scheibenförmige Schwunggewichte ange- nommen. Dieselben sind auch aus konstruktiven Rücksichten den üblichen keulenförmigen Schwunggewichten vorzuziehen.
