Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Linguistik, Note: 1,3, Universität Kassel (Universität), Veranstaltung: Das Wörterbuch der Brüder Grimm, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Hauptaufgabe historischer Wörterbüchern liegt darin, die Entwicklung der Wörter auf den verschiedenen Stufen der Sprachgeschichte zu verfolgen und die Herkunft und Veränderung ihrer Bedeutung darzustellen. Das erkannten auch die Brüder Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm. Neben ihrer bekannten Märchensammlung haben sie eine viel grö ere Rolle für die Germanistik gespielt. Die Germanistik verdankt ihnen das "Deutsche Wörterbuch", obwohl sie nur drei Bände, der inzwischen auf 32 Bänden erweiterten Sammlung, selbst geschrieben haben. Aufgrund seiner umfangreichen und reichhaltigen lexikographischen Dokumentation des Deutschen nimmt das "Deutsche Wörterbuch" der Gebrüder Grimm in der deutschen Sprachlexikographie eine Sonderstellung ein. Von seinen Begründern als "philologisch orientiertes Belegwörterbuch mit sprachhistorischer Ausrichtung" konzipiert und die "vollere, lebendige" Sammlung aller deutschen Wörter anstrebend, gilt es heutzutage als "worthistorisches Grundlagenwerk für die deutsche Sprache." Das Deutsche Wörterbuch von Grimm strebt, wie in der Neubearbeitung formuliert, an, ein Verzeichnis des hochdeutschen, schriftsprachlichen Wortbestand von der Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts, dem Beginn des Buchdrucks, bis zur Gegenwart zu liefern, wobei es sich auf den im älteren Neuhochdeutschen gebräuchlichen Wortschatz beschränkt. Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit soll neben der Entstehungsgeschichte, dem Vergleich zwischen Alt- und Neuausgabe, den Vorläufern des "Deutschen Wörterbuchs" auch der Aufbau sein. Zum Schluss werde ich versuchen ein Resümee zu ziehen.
