Die moderne Kinderliteratur zeigt sich als ein Spiegelbild dieser kulturell komplexer werdenden Gesellschaft, indem sie konkrete Beispiele für die Konstruktion des Fremden sowie die subjektiven Seiten von Fremdheitserfahrungen, in Form des literarischen Innenblickes, aufzeigt. Dieses Buch untersucht wie in der Kinderliteratur das Thema der interkulturellen Begegnung erfasst wird. Hierzu wird zuerst der Begriff "fremd" erklärt und dargestellt und anschlie end auf die Kinderliteratur übertragen. Ebenso werden die vielen Arten und Darstellungsweisen von "Fremdheit" aufgezeigt. Es folgen Anmerkungen zum interkulturellen Austausch mit Hilfe dieser Literatur sowie einer anschlie enden Darstellung prototypischer Figurentypen, die von einer literalen "Andersartigkeit" umhüllt sind. Zum Schluss wird die Darstellung der Fremdheit in der Kinderliteratur anhand von fünf Beispielen aufgezeigt.
