Das daran gekoppelte Phänomen der doppelten Kontingenz, das eine Erklärung für die Ausbildung von Liebesbeziehungen liefert, steht im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit. Es sollen die Mechanismen aufgezeigt werden, die es möglich machen, dass so ein riskantes, ja höchst unwahrscheinliches Unternehmen wie die Liebe, in Gang gesetzt wird und auf Dauer funktionieren kann. Der erste Teil der Arbeit widmet sich einer systemtheoretischen Untersuchung des Phänomens Liebe und ihrer Entstehung. Ausgehend von ihrer Paradoxie werden die Luhmannschen Termini doppelte Kontingenz, Kommunikation und symbolisch generalisiertes Kommunikationsmedium erläutert. Im darauffolgenden Hauptteil kommen die theoretischen Erkenntnisse in einer Alltagsbetrachtung zur Anwendung. Anhand einer fiktiven Liebesgeschichte wird der Prozess einer entstehenden Liebe exemplarisch aufgezeichnet.
