Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 2,0, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die zentrale Fragestellung unter der die folgende Arbeit entstanden ist, lautet wie folgt: Wieso entfremdeten sich Caesar und Pompeius voneinander? Zusätzlich wurde untersucht, was letztendlich zum endgültigen Bruch zwischen den beiden Männern führte und was auf diesen folgte. Gnaus Pompeius Magnus war ein römischer Politiker und Feldherr. Bis zu seiner Niederlage im Bürgerkrieg gegen Caesar galt er als der brillanteste Feldherr seiner Zeit. Sein Beiname 'der Gro e' spielt auf Alexander den Gro en an, der zu Lebzeiten gro e militärische Erfolge für sich verzeichnen konnte. Er stammt aus einem plebejischen Geschlecht, welches erst spät in der römischen Politik eine Rolle spielte. Über Pompeius Gro vater und Vater ist bekannt, dass sie Statthalter waren. Sein Vater Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo wurde zudem 89 v. Chr., während des Bundesgenossenkrieges, zum Konsul ernannt. Unbeliebt machte er sich, als er die Beute aus Asculum seinem Privatvermögen und nicht dem Staat zuführte. Bereits im Alter von 17 Jahren kämpfte Pompeius im Heer seines Vaters. Nachdem Tod seines Vaters wurde Pompeius wegen Beuteunterschlagung angeklagt, wurde jedoch, nach der Hochzeit mit der der Tochter des Richters, Antistia, freigesprochen. Unter Sulla stieg er auf. Einerseits heiratete er 82 die Tochter Sullas und stieg so in die Nobilität auf, andererseits führte er, trotz seines jungen Alters und der Tatsache, dass er die erforderlichen Ämter nicht durchlaufen hatte, zwei erfolgreiche Feldzüge für Sulla. Auch nach dem Tod Sullas konnte er weitere Kriege für sich entscheiden. Für das Jahr 70 v. Chr. wurde Pompeius schlie lich zum Konsul ernannt. Zehn Jahr später schloss er mit Ceasar und Crassus das erste sogenannte Triumvirat. Gaius Julius Caesar ist in der heutigen Zeit als römischer Staatsmann, Feldherr und Autor bekannt.
