Im Rahmen des Onlinewahlkampfes nehmen Weblogs eine besondere Position ein. Als Element einer Onlinekampagne auf Bundesebene finden sie erstmals zur Bundestagswahl 2005 Anwendung und sind ein Import der US‐amerikanischen Präsidentschaftswahlen 2004. Hier erregte der demokratische Kandidat Howard Dean als erster Politiker mit eigenem Blog schon im Vorwahlkampf aufsehen, indem er mittels seines Weblogs eine Summe von über 7,5 Millionen Dollar sammelte und ein beachtliches Unterstützernetzwerk aufbaute. In Deutschland wurden auf Landesebene bereits vor der Bundestagswahl 2005 erfolgreiche Versuche mit Weblogs zur Bürgerschaftswahl in Hamburg 2004 und den Landtagswahlen in Nordrhein‐Westfalen 2005 durchgeführt. Der Begriff selbst ist eine Zusammensetzung der Wörter "Web" und "Logbuch" zu Weblog, kurz: Blog. Die vorliegende Hausarbeit wirft einen Blick auf den Onlinewahlkampf im Ganzen und beschäftigt sich im Speziellen mit der Rolle und Funktion von Weblogs im Rahmen des eCampainings. Was sind Weblogs? Warum sind sie relevant für den Wahlkampf und was können sie leisten? Es sollen die Möglichkeiten und Potentiale der neuen Kommunikationsform beleuchtet und im Ergebnis der konkreten Anwendung und Resonanz zu Weblogs im Bundestagswahlkampf 2005 gegenübergestellt werden.
